Improving Performance among the Dental Team

Communication is key

According to a Carnegie Foundation report, 85% of a worker’s job success is determined by his or her interpersonal skills. Only 15% of their success relates to their technical skills.

Interpersonal skills are based on communication. Therefore, to strengthen the connection between employees in your dental practice, clear communication among them is vital.

But chances are that each employee in your practice has a different style of communication. Everyone is born with specific personality traits that, along with our learning environment as we grow, shape our communication skills. We can’t expect our personality traits and communication styles to mesh perfectly with that of others.

Therefore, it’s important to understand the different types of personalities, increase your self-knowledge of your own communication style, and, in turn, improve your communication with others by recognizing their personality types and communication styles.

Robert A. Rohm, Ph.D., a popular keynote speaker, author and corporate trainer recognized for his expertise in team building and human behavior, states, “Our need to belong has a powerful influence on how we behave and our ability to interact with others successfully remains a constant challenge.”
